| I got Final Wars on DVD from little bear. <3 Merry Christmas from mosura!
メリークリスマス | | |
| Oh my goodness. Final Wars. Or, if you will, Fainaru Ouzu. Ah, I loved this just like I love every other Godzilla movie. The director, Riyuhei Kitamura, made it pretty rediculous, but it woudlnt' be a Godzilla movie if it was too serious.
All your favorite monsters return. Starts off with a computer animated battle with Manda, a serpentine monster, fighting the Gotengo sub. Both of which first appeared in the movie Atragon. I've never seen that one, I've only seen manda in Destroy All Monsters and as stock footage. Oh Manda. This scene introduces Captain Gordon, played by the American world champion fighter Don Frye. This guy is so rediculous. He speaks English the entire time and everyone replies to him in Japanese. Oh man... kids.
A mummified Gigan is sent down from space. This isn't the old Gigan we all know and love, the tubby fish man. He's sleek and more poweful but he just ends up getting decapitated twice. Hehe... Gigan.
The American Godzilla is in this movie. He's the first moster Godzilla fights and the only monster he fights that is 100% computer animated. Its really funny because they play Sum 41 while he's being destroyed. Oh those crazy Japanese making fun of our bad music and bad Godzillas. "I knew that tuna eating monster was useless." They make fun of our bad dubbing too, when Rodan shows up in New York the people on the street are dubbed and its terrible.
Mmm... Rodan. Using his sonic speed to destroy buildings just by flying past them... Too bad Godzilla had beat him.
Kumonga, the spider, battle Godzilla until Godzilla grabs him by the web and swings him around. I love things like that, because you know the monster is suspened by a wire and being swun around on a soundstage and it makes me happy to see they still do it that way. Hehehe... Another bug monter: Kamacuras, the praying mantis. They use some CGI to make him look more bug like but then the battles are guys in suits. Hehe, he gets stabbed in the abdomen. Both of these guys premered in Son of Godzilla. I've got to see that one, cuz I only know these monsters from stock footage mostly.
Speaking of the son of Godzilla, Minya is in Final Wars and hangs out with a kid and his cooky grandfather. Hehehe...
Who else do we see battling Godzilla? Hedorah of course, my favorite. They filmed a lot of Hedorah but they used like two seconds of him. All you see is Godzilla Throwing him out of the water and into a building and then stabing him in the eye with Ebirah, the rock crab. I know Ebirah, Horrors of the Deep was a movie Chris wanted to see. Why didn't we end up seeing that? Ah, my poor sweet Hedorah. I wanted to bring my plushie to the movie (I brought my little chewy to star wars!) but Chris didn't want him to see himself die on screen.
There's a good meeting between Godzilla and Angirus, they talk to each other until King Ceasar and Rodan show up. At least they dind't have bad American voices making Godzilla and Angiurus talk like in Godzilla vs. Gigan. I've never seen King Ceasar other than stock footage before. He's in the original Mechagodzilla, the only mechagodzilla movie I haven't seen. Mechagodzilla (Kiryu) wasn't in this movie because they didn't have the same Godzilla self defence force that they did in the other Millenium Series movies.
I almost thought that King Gidhora woudln't show up and that would have made me very sad. Kaizer Gidorah was featured. I don't like him as much as King, he has four legs instead of two and doesn't make those great noices. Oh well. It made for a good battle.
The human storyline was crazy yet strangely familiar... Aliens wanting to take of the world and using monsters to destroy it to teach humans that they are more advanced in techonology and science? Hehehe... I actually liked the head Xilian cuz he was pretty rediulous. He did the long coat fliping thing that was used in Versus a lot and he went crazy when ever he saw Godzilla destroy one of the monsters he was controlling. Ah, I love when Godzilla destroys things. When I grow up, I'm going to be Godzilla.
Can't wait for the DVD! Maybe the special features will have more Hedorah. Ooo! I can read Japanese first grade book! Hehe, I could read some of the subtitles, the ones in hiragana... I coudln't translate them but I coudl read them! Guys! I'm learning Japanese! Wish me luck!

I watched two Toho monster movies today! And I'll be seeing another one tomorrow! This entry is for The Mysterians and Godzilla, the original 1954 Japanese version.
The Mysterians was pretty bad as far as nonsencical story line and campy aliens go. The Mysterians destroyed their planet a long time ago in a nuclear war and they've been traveling space ever since. Now they want to live on earth in a small stretch of land with a 2km radius and mate with Earth women to produce more hearty offspring and eventually take over.
"Its cold inside, you should wear a cape" ::All five Japanese scientists in the alien hideout are provided with matching silver capes::
"You can tell by the way I'm talking to you that they're more advanced in science" ::talks to people using television, not color, but tinted purple::
This movie is significant for Godzilla fans because it introduces Moguera, although the robot doesn't go by that name or any name in this movie. He's pretty embarassing. He destroys some stuff early in the movie and then they explode a bridge on him and he dies. During the climax battle scene he starts to emerge from the rubble but something else falls on him and he's gone again.
The best thing about this movie was that the DVD quality was very good.
Godzilla. Chris and I started watching this last semester one night and it was pretty late and I just got too sleepy and we never finished it. We did today for reasons I shall reveal later and it was good. I've seen the Americanized version of it already so I was looking for differences. Chris's favorite is the living trilobite, evidence that Godzilla is a 2 million year old monster that's come back to live by radiation from the atomic bomb. Oh yeah, there's some anti-American sentiment in regards to the bomb but this is less than a decade after Hiroshima and Nagasaki so you can't really blame them. Good times guys. I actually got shivers in a few shots, like the one behind the bird cage or basically whenever you can see his eyes.
Tomorrow at the Dryden theater at the George Eastman House at 8:00 PM ::drumroll please:: Godzilla: Final Wars. I'm so excited. I get to see it on the big screen in Japanese with English subtitles. Well, the screen at Dryden isn't that big and they don't even have surround sound, but come on! Godzilla! I'm so excited. We're driving! Godzilla is worth the gas!
| Okay, okay, okay... This wasn't a real Godzilla movie but I'm going to
post an entry about the Godzilla scene just because I haven't seen a
real Godzilla movie in a while and this xangkid is gettin pretty lonely.
Pee Wee's Big Adventure.
Mmm... You know what I'm talking about: the Warner
Brother's Studio lot chase. First Pee Wee crashes the beach party
movie... then the Christmas film... Then he makes it to
Godzilla. I was so excited when I saw this part. Hehe...
Godzilla was fighting King Gidorah and Pee Wee rides through and
crushes the little tanks. The boat and Santa ride on in and take
Godzilla along for the ride while Gidorah is flying every which way and
crashing into stuff. Awesomeness. Who better to see the end
of Godzilla's moment other than Twisted Sister? Hahha, they're a
good time. Their music video is ruined when their car is in a
boating accident and Godzilla lands on it. Yes!
Interestingly enough, there is a clip of the Twisted Sister part on Dee Snider's
website. I once knew a Godizilla website with the Pee Wee clip
but I can't remember where that is now. Too bad.

Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah - Giant Monsters All-Out Attack. This, my friends was a good one. It starts off with a comment about Tristar's Godzilla film. "Was the one in New York Godzilla?" "Americans think it was, but not the Japanese." Ha!
I think this was my first Baragon movie, excluding stock footage or whatever. He was pretty cool. They called him "red godzilla" for a while. He had a good orange horn. His ears were funny too. Godzilla went all violent cop on him though, and then blasted him with atomic firebreath...
There were some crazy kids and they were partying and having fun and they ALL DIED. That'll teach them to stay out all night partying and having fun. Mothra's larva killed some of them and the rest were killed by... ah, I don't remember now. Probably Godzilla.
Mothra's role in this one wasn't very big. She made a heroic move to save Ghidorah that ended her life all to quickly. I was dissapointed by the Ghidorah in this one. They tried to replace his orignal call with a general monster scream. I think that Ghidorah has the best call, excluding Godzilla of course, so it was sad that they only played that at half volume and the general monster screaming over it.
As for the human plot in this movie, we have a girl who is a reporter for a the tabloid of television channels and her father the high ranking naval officer. He gets to save the day in a submarine. This is my first Godzilla movie where someone saves the day in a submarine. I think.
Yes, so this is a good Godzilla movie for fans of the regular monsters Mothra and King Ghidorah. There's a lot of action and even some plot, so go buy it.
